SEC Connect was founded by Daniel W. Rumsey, an experienced securities lawyer, entrepreneur, and business executive. He has founded two successful start-ups, has served as General Counsel, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Restructuring Officer, Chief Executive Officer, and Executive Chairman for private and public companies, and currently serves on four public company boards.
Dan began his career as a securities lawyer while clerking for the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement while still in law school. He later served in the SEC’s Division of Corporation Finance, in Washington, D.C., first in the branches, and later in the Office of Chief Counsel. After returning to private practice in Colorado, Dan taught securities law at the University of Denver College of Law, and was a frequent speaker and published author on issues relating to disclosure and other topics focused on securities and corporate law.
Dan’s long simmering passion for business was ignited when he founded Aspen Learning Systems, which he started after leaving EchoStar Communications Corporation, where he was a senior member of the legal team that financed and later brought EchoStar public.
After founding Aspen Learning Systems, and designing an online application for its software, Dan sold it to a company controlled by Michael Milken. He later served in several positions which leveraged his experience as a securities lawyer, and his knowledge of finance, accounting and business. It was during this period that he began to challenge the way that public companies filed their reports with the SEC via EDGAR, drawing on his extensive experience advising public companies and drafting and filing thousands of documents with the SEC.
While Dan still actively advises public companies, principally as a director and interim finance and chief executive, he’s squarely focused on SEC Connect, and building a company that revolutionizes the way public companies, their officers, directors and principal shareholders file periodic and other reports with the SEC via EDGAR. His passion is infectious, and if you’re not already among the converted, you soon will be.

SEC Connect was founded by Daniel W. Rumsey, a former attorney with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's Division of Corporation Finance, after years of representing and advising public companies, and growing frustration over the typical process and expense associated with filing periodic and other reports with the SEC. He set out to apply the principals of "Kaizen" to the EDGAR filing process. Kaizen, which is Japanese for "change for the better" or "improvement", meant stripping away all the activities that add cost to the EDGAR filing process but failed to add value. And so began SEC Connect.
Not wanting to wait for the engineers to catch up with his vision of how EDGAR filing could benefit from the principals of Kaizen, he introduced SEC Connect as a traditional EDGAR filing agent, only better. SEC Connect eliminates all the variable fees that drive up the cost of a typical filing, and established pricing options that were simple to understand, and yet competitive with the cost offered by even the most aggressive EDGAR filing agents. And SEC Connect hired only individuals experienced in preparing EDGAR and XBRL filings, and representing public companies. As a result, you'll notice that SEC Connect is not your typical EDGAR filing agent – we're the client's filing partner, adding value to a process that will soon have clients feeling liberated from the traditional public company - EDGAR filing agency relationship. And we've only just begun. Soon, clients of SEC Connect will benefit from the innovations that resulted from our founder's efforts to simplify the filing process for smaller reporting companies, their officers, directors and principal shareholders.
